The highlight of the #GR2020 season was the final and only full band performace. We were very thankful to close the season on the field with parents cheering us on.
Blue Springs High School Bands
The Blue Springs High School Band Department offers students many opportunities in the musical arts. Class ensembles include Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band 1, as well as multiple percussion ensembles and two Winter Color Guards. All these groups have specific curriculum that is designed to emphasize musicality and musical understanding, technique/raw building, sight-reading and performance skills, to name a few. Although not the primary focus of the bands, all the ensembles do participate in organized music festivals and have been fortunate to receive numerous awards and division I ratings.
The Wind Symphony has performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference (MMEA) multiple times and in 2019 was the recipient of the President's Cup at the National Concert Band Festival hosted by the Pershing's Own.
The Blue Springs Wildcat Jazz Ensemble has been the featured entertainment at The Tournament of Roses Presidential Breakfast, at the National School Board Association, and twice at the SYTA Convention.
During the fall, most students participate after school in the Golden Regiment March Band, which is Blue Springs High School's largest and most visible student group. The band has traveled throughout the United States, performing in a variety of national televised parades, field shows, and other major musical venues, in addition to receiving numerous awards and honors. The Golden Regiment has performed in The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Tournament of Roses Parade, the Presidential Inaugural Parade, and the Waikiki Holiday Parade. The Golden Regiment is a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation's International Band Award: The Sudler Shield. The Golden Regiment is a 4-time Grand National Finalist and a frequent Grand National Semi Finalist, as well as a Super Regional Finalist over 30 times encompassing all four super regional locations.
At the end of the marching season, band students may elect to participate in a variety of groups, including the Wildcat Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab, Studio Jazz, the Pit Orchestra, and a variety of small instrumental ensembles. All students perform in the Blue Springs Chamber Music Festival in the spring.
Upon graduation, Blue Springs band members pursue degrees in every field imaginable. Blue Springs is proud that many students continue playing their instruments after high school, as well as having graduates every year pursue music degrees.
